The eternal word

Your word, Lord, is eternal;
it stands firm in the heavens.
Your faithfulness continues through all generations;
you established the earth, and it endures.
Your laws endure to this day,
for all things serve you.

Psalm 119:89-91

God’s word reflects his character, and how could it be otherwise? What we say reflects who and what we are. Yes, there are many people who don’t say what they really think and try to conceal their real purposes. There are people who do that really well and really convincingly, but you really can’t do this forever and to everyone. Eventually, to someone, the truth will come out.

There’s enough spin and hype in our world. But God’s words are true, even the words we don’t like. What he says endures. His word stands firm.

And of course his firmest word is to be found in the incarnate Word, the one who really shows us God’s nature. And that Word reflects God’s character as no other person has ever done. Indeed, that Word is eternal, stands firm in the heavens and endures faithfully through and to all generations.
